Beware of Moose

Be on the lookout for moose, no not a moose with four legs but a moose worm. It’s going around attacking weak password protected routers mainly but can attack anything pretty much that is connected to the internet and is improperly set up or protected by a weak password (which shouldn’t be called protection really). Some Linux based hardware like routers from Actiontec, Hik Vision, Netgear, Synology, TP-Link, ZyXel and Zhone seem to be more vulnerable.

Once this worm has taken over your router it seems to go after login details from such popular websites as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and more. From there it seems to create fake accounts and uses the information found to create artificial followers and viewers. Since it’s got access to some critical information you can also bet that it’s probably gathering more information than that as well.
