Static Electricity

In my office here I’m plagued by static electricity especially during the dry winter, a humidifier should rectify that but that’s not what this blog is about.

Occasionally while trying to plug in a USB device and even on a few occasions while just touching my computer itself and receiving a shock I’ve noticed my computer freeze or just go dark while still running power. This is one issue I’ve noticed a second one is that this current also travels fairly quickly and somehow goes through to my router causing it to not respond as well. In either situation a reboot is needed to fix the problem, occasionally it’s lost saved work so I try to save my stuff as often as I can while working on it for this reason and should the power go out is another. Just thought I’d share my discovery should others be experiencing the same thing but not realizing what’s going on with some of their electronics.

This is also a reminder to those that deal with computer parts inside of their units and might forget to ground themselves or at the least discharge before handling the components as well….
