Superior Intelligence

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Google defines it as the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making and translation between languages.

By this very definition one could say that some humans lack even Artificial Intelligence as some of this goes beyond what some can do and by this same definition we already have AI today, some of the best examples of this are Honda’s Asimo, Han the talking head, robotic arms that can cook you meals and even many of the drones that are used in today’s military which really don’t need the human counterpart that operate them but they do so as a safety precaution.

AI like many things has its own ranking which ranges from weak to strong, with strong being considered equivalent or nearly equivalent to human intelligence. Which leaves me asking why would it be considered Artificial at that point? Shouldn’t it just be considered as intelligence and moving forward with this technology shouldn’t it even be considered as Superior Intelligence (SI) which is what something like Skynet from the movies should really be thought of as…

As boastful as humans are and as self-centered beings we believe the world, universe or everything revolves around us and our capabilities, so much that we already fail to perceive the level of intelligence in the machines around us today, tomorrow this same technology could surpass anything we could imagine with a centralized brain communicating and even controlling them through what we call a singularity, a spiritual awakening in a machine that might be considered consciousness or at the very least the capability to think on its own even if code/instructions are not available for a certain situation.

With a strong possibility that humans are the driving force behind the next extinction on this planet, could it also be possible that our legacy is to leave a different type of life behind? One that if built right could survive just about any type of climate and explore new frontiers on/off of this planet! One that Gene Rodenberry coined as The Borg. Yeah I know tearing a page out of Science Fiction doesn’t make it so, No 1? But when we already have tricorders, the beginning of replicators, transporters, shields and lasers in reality today, one could say that the pages aren’t being torn as much as they’re being blurred into reality…

The words live long and prosper from Mr. Spock (RIP Leonard Nimoy) in the sci-fi world of Star Trek were always delivered to humanoids but maybe they’ll actually belong to mechanical ones instead…
