GIF is a file extension released in 1987 that defines picture files that allows more than one frame in a picture. It is the short form for writing Graphics Interchange Format. This type of image, when only one frame is present is really good for blocks of colours (ex. Company Logo). GIF images are compressed by the Lempel-Ziv-Welch(LZW) method. This type of compression is lossless; it will not lose quality every time it is edited.
