Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP). It is one of man’s biggest inventions as you wouldn’t be reading this paragraph on this webpage if it did not exist. The Internet is essentially a network, of all the networks that are connected in the world; thus, it is called the World Wide Web (WWW). Today people can do almost anything on the Internet, from receiving messages to streaming videos. These are done with the new protocols that the Internet has brought along. With these protocols there are also many ways of connecting to the Internet – technology such as Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G, and landline broadband are a common sight nowadays. Now, almost 30 years after the Internet came out, there is much more advanced technology. The speed of the Internet has increased ten folds with each new type of technology. The speed can be from maximum speeds of 56kb/s to 1Gb/s. With these speeds, people can easily host websites that offer downloads for information, freeware, and paid software. Software such as Linux, Mozilla Firefox, and OpenOffice are available due to the easily accessible websites. Since the amount of information on the internet is so vast, there will emerge false information. Users need to monitor what websites they go on and what they download as there are many websites over the Internet that contains viruses that can cause errors in their computer’s software or even allow the maker of the virus to steal the information on their computer.
