JPG and JPEG are extensions which are attached at the end of certain image files. JPG’s are able to compress file sizes easily without losing much of the image quality. They can vary in size as users are able to choose, in programs like Adobe Photoshop, the compression ratio of quality to file size (The bigger the file size, the higher the quality and vise versa). Currently this format is the most popular format found on the internet nowadays. The JPEG format is best used when the photo is of a real scene or realistic painting. Due to JPEG’s nature, it is unfit to be used in certain situations, such as using the file to do many variations. Each time the file is decompressed to allow editing and then compressed again, each time the file will lose more and more quality – in order to avoid this, users must convert the file into a special lossless file.
