Linux is an operating system based on the Unix operating system that is open source meaning that the source code it’s based on is accessible to anyone for modification. Due to the fact that it is open source it is now fully run on community contributions, this means that problems will be tackled very easily and quickly. There are many version of Linux that are on the Internet. The most popular operating systems based on Linux are Ubuntu, Android, iOS, and Mac OS X. Linux is used mostly on servers. Linux has low system requirements unlike Microsoft Windows; which means that it will be able to run on old, low-specification computers. However many Microsoft Windows programs will not run on Linux computers – There are programs that simulate Windows on Linux to fix that problem such as wine.
