Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access is a database management system made by Microsoft. A database is an organized collection of data, normally modeling real life things. For example, it can model the number of available rooms in a hotel or the number of people who arrived at a convention. Microsoft Access was developed by Microsoft, and released in 1992. Microsoft Access is normally used as a ‘front-end’ with other products as the ‘back-end’ tables, like Microsoft SQL Server, which means that users access it indirectly through an external application. Microsoft Access allows the user to have a variety of field types, indices, and referential integrity. It can be integrated into other technologies such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and ActiveX Data Objects for more advanced users. In addition, Microsoft Access includes a query interface – it has forms to display and enter data and gives reports to print out. Similar to Microsoft Excel, Access allows users to use macros with point – and – click options allowing users to easily do repetitive tasks with ease. Like most programs of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access has the option for users to program solutions using the Visual Basic language. It allows a number of users access the database based on the size of a database.
