Microsoft SQL is a relational database program used to store and retrieve information from many users on a network. There are many versions of this program; each of them vary in specialization. Some of them are very good at retrieve and storing large amounts of information (ex. A game server). Some of them are only good for small pieces of data (ex. Small website). Each one of these servers cost a different amount, the large databases are the most expensive. Microsoft server database uses a Microsoft defined format to communicate. The data is stored in 8kb pages. These pages are buffered into the ram in order to reduce disc I/O. Microsoft SQL provides a lot of add-on services.
