URL (Uniform Resource Locator)

URL is the technical term for web address. It is what an IP address is after being converted by the DNS, and what the users would type in if they are to access the website. It is usually formatted with a scheme name, which is then followed by a colon and two slashes. The most common scheme name is http:// (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) or the more secure https://. Then there would be the server name followed by a period; the most common being www. Then the domain name is typed in; for example, Google.ca or bing.com. Then it is followed by a file path, to retrieve information of specific files on that website, such as another page.
